The Old Man Lake wildfire near Sooke was no longer considered out of control as of July 30.

Rainy conditions hitting the Capital Region to start the week and other factors have helped crews to contain the wildfire burning near Sooke.

That blaze sparked on July 22 is now being held after it was considered out of control until Tuesday (July 30). Based on fuel and weather conditions, the Old Man Lake fire is projected to remain within the current perimeter, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service's latest update.

Like the day before, Tuesday's update said crews were able to continue making progress on containing the south and north flanks of the fire, which is located about nine kilometres north of Sooke.

The wildfire service had already considered the west side of the fire sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½“ along the Sooke River sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½“ to be contained and had deployed para-attack crews known as smokejumpers to deal with tricky terrain along the blaze's eastern side.

The suspected human-caused fire remains 230 hectares in size.

The regional parks in the area remain closed at this time.
