Police are investigating an early morning vehicle fire near Squires Four Pub on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a business alarm around 2 a.m. in the 6300-block of Stickle Road.

Officers showed up to a cube van parked next to the building that was on fire.

"Officers tried to put out the fire using hand extinguishers but it had grown too large," said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer.

BX Swan Lake Fire Rescue extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to the building.

"Once the fire was out, police were able to determine that someone had smashed a window and tried to gain entry to the business," said Terleski. "The van was confirmed to have been stolen from a location in Vernon and is believed to have been intentionally set on fire."

The incident remains under investigation.
