Spatsin hopes for a sea of orange Monday.
The Indigenous group outside of Enderby invites everyone to the annual National Day for Truth and Reconcilation sa国际传媒� also called Orange Shirt Day sa国际传媒� Sept. 30.
It's a day that honours the children who never returned home, and survivors of Residential Schools, as well as their families and communities.
"This honouring is a vital part of the reconciliation process," said Splatsin in a release.
There are 150 known Splatsin members who attended Residential Schools over the decades. Of those, 44 remain.
Participants will meet at the Enderby Chamber of Commerce building at 702 Railway Street.
The walk begins at 10 a.m. and will proceed to the Splatsin Centre (approx. 20 minutes). There will be a flat deck trailer available for those with mobility issues.
Following the walk, there will be an honouring ceremony of the Splatsin survivors.
Music and lunch will also be provided.
Orange Shirts will be available for purchase prior to the walk.
Reconciliation is about Indigenous and non-Indigenous people coming to terms with the events of the past in a way that builds trust and respectful relationships.
This year, there will be resources available for both individuals and local governments that identify reconciliation actions.
