Dr. David Suzuki joined the CBC in 1971 with the TV series, sa国际传媒淪uzuki on Science.sa国际传媒 In 1974, he developed and hosted the long-running popular radio program sa国际传媒淨uirks and Quarks,sa国际传媒 and several more TV specials followed. Studying zoology and genetics in the United States, Suzuki returned to Canada in the early 1960sa国际传媒檚, at a time when science was booming, and the space race was on.

sa国际传媒楢mericans revel in money, and I didnsa国际传媒檛 like that. One of my heroes was Tommy Douglas. In the States, he wouldsa国际传媒檝e been branded an outright commie, but the CCF at that time, now the NDP - was a legitimate party, I loved that we had Medicare, we had equalization paymentssa国际传媒, says Suzuki.

sa国际传媒業 said, I have go to get out of this country. You know, Isa国际传媒檝e never regretted that choice. Canada is different. Isa国际传媒檓 not saying wesa国际传媒檙e better than the US, itsa国际传媒檚 different. I prefer the differences in Canadasa国际传媒.

Suzuki tells sa国际传媒楾oday in B.C.sa国际传媒 host Peter McCully that there have been some issues that the sa国际传媒淣ature of Thingssa国际传媒 has focused on over the years that he feels have made a difference.

sa国际传媒楽hows that had an immediate effect, like the program we did on the Amazon, back in 1989, a two-hour special on a great dam being planned known as the Great Whale Project. I believe that our program stopped that dam from being builtsa国际传媒.

A particularly personal and emotional program for Suzuki, dealt with Alzheimersa国际传媒檚.

sa国际传媒楳y mother had Alzheimersa国际传媒檚 and her three brothers and, and her sister all died of dementia. I offered to talk about how it affected me personally, and I think the personal involvement had a real impact on the program itselfsa国际传媒.

Suzuki the author and co-author of over 50 books, says he will take on the role of an elder after retirement from the program.

sa国际传媒業 can just tell the truth and I can tell the truth on behalf of the one group that is least empowered in our society, and thatsa国际传媒檚 our children. If our children arensa国际传媒檛 at center stage in our conversation then what the hell are we doing all this, or not doing all this for?sa国际传媒
