Kelowna police force growing for busy summer season

With Kelowna once again becoming the summer playground that it is known for, the police presence in the city is being boosted.

City staff announced on May 18 that six new RCMP staff are being added to the force, along with four bylaw officers, two police services support staff and one community safety services employee.

sa国际传媒淪ummer brings a lot of excitement and visitors to Kelowna. It represents the busiest time of year for our community safety responders, and we all have a role to play in making the summer season safe,sa国际传媒 said Community Safety Director Darren Caul.

The addition to the force is being aided by a one per cent Community Safety Levy, recently approved by city council.

RCMP will have boots on the ground specifically focusing on social disorder and public intoxication. Bait bikes will also be once again used to attempt to catch bike thieves.

Four bylaw officers will be on bike patrol all summer.

Kelowna Superintendent Kara Triance said that officers are sa国际传媒減repared and vigilantsa国际传媒 for the warm weather and the steady influx of visitors.
