Evacuation alerts issued for 3 communities south of Princeton

Residents in Eastgate, Placer and the Pasayten Area have been put on an evacuation alert

Residents in Eastgate, Placer and the Pasayten Area have been put on an evacuation alert due to the Calcite Creek wildfire.

The fire was reported just before 8:30 a.m. on July 18, and as of 5:28 p.m., it has grown to more than 25 hectares in size.

The blaze is located 41 kilometres south of Princeton

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the blaze is currently showing aggressive behaviour and growth.

Evacuation alerts are not orders to leave the area, but residents are advised to prepare to vacate their property with little notice due to changing conditions.

The fire is currently believed to be lightning-caused, as are two other blazes in the same region.

Helicopters, ground crews and a bird dog are responding to the Calcite Creek wildfire as well as the other blazes nearby.

One of the other fires is currently listed as being held, and the other is estimated to be 0.3 hectares in size and still out of control.
