Polls closed, results for Kelowna municipal election coming up

Voting for the municipal election is open until 8 p.m.

Crime and homelessness were a few issues on voterssa国际传媒 minds as they cast their ballots today in Kelowna.

sa国际传媒淥ne issue I would say is property taxes andsa国际传媒 cleaning up the downtown, homelessness and crime,sa国际传媒 said Kelowna resident Nick Gunn, at the polling station at Parkinson Recreation Centre.

Another resident said she wants council to sa国际传媒渉omesa国际传媒 people and not sa国际传媒渉ousesa国际传媒 them. She said collaboration is needed from non-profits and sa国际传媒渘ot always big business,sa国际传媒 but declined to give her name to the Capital News.

sa国际传媒淚 was not happy with our choices (for mayor),sa国际传媒 she said.

As his duty to vote, resident Don Abney said he studied each of the council candidatesa国际传媒檚 platforms.

sa国际传媒淚 wasnsa国际传媒檛 happy for with the past mayor so I didnsa国际传媒檛 vote for the mayor,sa国际传媒 he said. sa国际传媒淭he thing that bothered me the most was the placement of the tourist bureau down by the lake.sa国际传媒

He also said event planners were ignored by council.

Two residents who said they lived downtown were concerned with the homelessness situation.

And two 18-year-olds cast their ballots for the first time Saturday morning.

sa国际传媒淚t felt good, itsa国际传媒檚 something that we take for granted so itsa国际传媒檚 something we should always do,sa国际传媒 said Ben Whittaker. Whittaker and Tommy DeWitt said there wasnsa国际传媒檛 an issue, in particular, they were focused on for this election; it was more about exercising their right to vote.

sa国际传媒淲e both really like historysa国际传媒 so we realize how fortunate we are to actually have this ability to vote,sa国际传媒 Whittaker said.
