A house fire on Remembrance Day has left a family homeless just after the mom had surgery to treat cancer.
Around 2:15 p.m., black smoke was reported to be coming from the home on Burns Street last Saturday.
A witness told a Black Press Media reporter on scene that a small flame was visible at a bottom window but within minutes, it spread to the upstairs.
The house, located just off Eckhardt Avenue, is in an alley and the damage is significant.
The mom was in the home resting at the time of the fire but did manage to escape unharmed along with her son and daughter.
