Kelowna celebrates Asian Heritage Month with full schedule

The start of May marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month in Canada, and residents in Kelowna are invited to take part in a 31 days full of events, education and fun.

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for Canadians to learn about the history of Asian communities in Canada. Specifically, it is a time for Canadians to acknowledge the contributions that people of Asian origins have made throughout history to make Canada the country that it is today.

Throughout the month of May, the Okanagan Regional Library in Downtown Kelowna will host a free Asian Heritage Exhibition.

In Kelowna, the AHM opening forum will take place on Saturday, May 4, at the Rotary Center for the Arts.

The free event will include artwork, storytelling, a panel of speakers and performances.

Family Sundays at the Kelowna Art Gallery will run each weekend throughout the month of May (5, 12, 19, 26) and will feature Asian crafts for children to enjoy.

From May 14-17, the Okanagan Regional Library in downtown Kelowna will host an AHM movie week.

The screening of the four movies sa国际传媒 Under the Willow Tree, Home Feeling (Struggle for a Community), Aftermath (The Remnants of War), Seven Shades of Pale sa国际传媒 is free for all people. A discussion session will follow the completion of the last movie, Seven Shades of Pale, on May 17.

On May 25, a free Multicultural Community Showcase will be held at the Parkinson Recreation Center from 6-9 p.m. The event will showcase multicultural performances, activities and Asian food.
