As temperatures reach up to 40 C this week, the District of Lake Country is letting families know where they can cool down for free.

The Winfield Arena is open to the public Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drinking water is also available at this location.

Cool off with a good book at the Okanagan Regional Library in Lake Country. Library hours can be checked .

Municipal Hall is also an option, open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Or get some fresh air with a little splash at the Swalwell Park Water Park open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A few tips from the district on staying safe in extreme heat include limiting outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., drinking plenty of water, avoiding outdoor work or exercise and regularly applying sunscreen to protect your skin.
