Kelowna brothers bring award winning film back home

The Founder Effect is being shown at the Mary Irwin Theatre on Sept. 24, 2024.

Kelowna's Justin and Kris MacGregor are for the first time debuting one of their films on the big screen right at home. 

is being shown at the Mary Irwin Theatre on Sept. 24. 

Filmed in both the Lower Mainland and Kelowna, the movie has already been screened at over 60 festivals across 23 countries. 

Set in a town called Hope, the Founder Effect follows retired police officer Jack Rooney, played by Rick Edwards, as he searches for his missing grandson. 

With 20 awards and more than 50 nominations, the MacGregors are eager to show the film locally. 

The brothers will be on hand after the screening for a question and answer period with the audience. 

Just ahead of the screening at 7 p.m., the Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmaking will host the Oner Contest the half-hour before. The contest challenges filmmakers to create a unique short film in one take, with no editing of unbroken shots. The winner will receive $500.
