New Syilx childrensa国际传媒檚 books teach kids about the eco-system

A new childrensa国际传媒檚 book series featuring Syilx artists is now available in Okanagan school districts.

The Ensa国际传媒檕wkin Centre, Theytus books and the Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) have announced the publication of a series of four new childrensa国际传媒檚 books entitled Follow the Water.

The Follow the Water Series was written by Harron Hall BA, with illustrations by Syilx artists Shianna Allison, Ron Hall, Phyllis Isaac BA and Bill Cohen PhD.

The Follow the Water K-5 Curriculum Project is a two-year initiative spearheaded by the Ensa国际传媒檕wkin Centre and RDOS to create Syilx science-based resources.

The focus of the series is Syilx water perspectives and how they relate to healthy eco-systems. Syilx Traditional Ecological Knowledge Keepers provided the expertise to produce these educational materials that can be used in classrooms valley-wide.

The series includes:

  • i蕯 siw涩kw nkwancin蓹m k虝蓹l suli蕯 (The water sings to suli蕯) for ages 5-7
  • k蓹xntim s蕰anix史 k虝蓹l nix史titk史 acx史蓹l虝x史alt (We go with Muskrat to those living underwater) for ages 7-9
  • sk涩psa国际传媒檒ksa国际传媒檓itkw (The Water Changeling) for ages 9-10
  • k史usa国际传媒縞虝蓹x虒史蓹ntim t蓹l stunx iscksa国际传媒櫴穟ls (Lessons from Beaversa国际传媒檚 Work) for ages 10-11

In the coming months, Ensa国际传媒檕wkin Centre and the RDOS will host a series of sa国际传媒淔ollow the Watersa国际传媒 classroom presentations from Kindergarten to Grade 5. A teachersa国际传媒檚 resource guide is also being published to complement the series and will be made available to Okanagan school districts.
